Circato

A unified digital platform for tracking, managing, and coordinating a disaster-resilient modular construction supply chain — from raw plastic bales to installed structures and back again.

The Challenge

Circato builds disaster-resilient modular structures from recycled plastic waste — a product with an unusually complex supply chain that spans raw material processing, panel manufacturing, assembly, logistics, and on-site installation across multiple countries. A core part of Circato's value proposition is panel reusability: each panel can outlive a single building, be recovered after demolition, and reinstalled elsewhere. But without a digital backbone, that promise was difficult to operationalize. There was no system tracking where a panel had been, what quality checks it had passed, or which work order it was assigned to.

Teams across roles — from factory floor to field installation — were coordinating through informal channels, with no shared source of truth on inventory levels, work order status, or project progress.

Our Approach

We designed and built the Circato Digital Platform from the ground up as a unified digital backbone for Circato's entire supply chain. The goal was to replace fragmented, informal coordination with a single source of truth — one system that could track every panel from raw material to installed structure, enforce quality at every stage, and give all stakeholders visibility into project status in real time.

The architecture was built around panel-level traceability that persists across building lifecycles, supporting Circato's core promise that panels can be recovered, requalified, and redeployed long after a building is demolished. A dedicated collaboration module was also built into the platform to replace the informal email chains and verbal handoffs that previously connected teams — bringing drawings, approvals, amendments, and project communications into a structured, trackable layer within the same system.

What We Built

  • Panel Registry & TraceabilityA permanent digital record for every panel, tied to its manually-assigned physical code, tracking status, batch, manufacturing date, and full installation history across multiple buildings and projects.
  • Work Order ManagementEnd-to-end work order lifecycle covering project assignment, CAD and SketchUp drawing attachments, panel allocation, and packing list generation for shipment.
  • Inventory ManagementTracking of raw materials from incoming plastic bales through shredding, sheet production, and panel registration, with production run logging and transaction history.
  • Installation TrackingA mobile-first interface for field teams to view work orders and drawings, mark panels as installed with GPS coordinates, and record actual vs. planned metrics.
  • Quality ModuleA flexible inspection system built on reusable templates, supporting pass/fail and measurement-based checks with photo attachments, linkable to any entity at any stage of the pipeline.
  • Project Collaboration ModuleA structured communication layer within the platform where architects, consultants, contractors, and internal teams can review drawings, log amendments, request approvals, and track revisions — replacing unstructured email coordination with a documented, project-bound workflow.
